What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a deeply relaxing and enjoyable state whereby our attention becomes fixated on a single source to the extent that the external environment seems to fade away.
It’s a safe and natural condition that you already know about - it might surprise you (or not!) to know that you have probably been in a trance several times in the last 24 hours!
Have you ever found yourself daydreaming? Well, that's hypnosis.
When you’ve driven along a motorway and become aware that you haven’t paid much attention for the last mile or so – that’s also hypnosis.
When you've become deeply engrossed in a book, absorbed by a film or become so wrapped up in something you’re doing that you’ve lost track of time – that’s hypnosis too.
All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. All that a hypnotherapist does is use his or her specialist skills to gently guide and assist you. You are always in the driving seat.
“What about those people on stage shows?”
You will never do anything you don’t want to do whilst in hypnosis. You will not act foolishly, give away secret information or become totally unconscious. At all times you will still be aware of the hypnotherapist’s voice and could get up and walk out if you really wanted to.
We are in the business of helping people i.e. therapy, not entertainment.
If you’re thinking of big leather chairs and someone with scary eyes and a swirling black cape waving a watch in front of you – think again, we’re much nicer than that! (Well, our clients think so anyway).
